Senior Director, Winemaking
Alicia Ysais was destined to be a winemaker from birth. Born in the small farming town of Hughson, CA, she was surrounded by vineyards. Both her parents were involved with grape growing.
Alicia holds a biochemistry degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and intended to pursue a career in the health industry. Shortly, after beginning a Ph.D. program at the University of Arizona, she had a change of heart and returned to California.
In 1995 Alicia took a position as a lab technician at the Indelicato’s winery in Manteca near her childhood home of Hughson. The Indelicatos immediately recognized her talent and assigned her to a special project monitoring barrel fermentation, which led to her designing a quality control program for barrel fermentation for the winery's inventory of 5,000 barrels.
Alicia's status on the winemaking team rapidly grew, and she assumed increasing responsibility for the production of red, white and rosé wines. In 2006, she was named to the position of Senior Winemaker for Delicato Family Vineyards.
In 2010, Alicia met with Cheryl Indelicato to explore Cheryl’s long-held dream of developing her own wine brand, which she ultimately named HandCraft Artisan Collection. To implement this, Alicia immediately began to select vineyard lots from the Indelicato’s Monterey and Lodi properties that would reflect the style appropriate to Cheryl's goal, namely wines that are fruit-forward, distinct, easy to drink and pair well with food.
